Our STORY
Pioneering spirit, reliability and practical relevance – for generations. And these are the very values we continue to live by today.
GRP, Slurry Tanks & Quality from Gerlingen
Wolfangel knows the world of GRP products in all its facets – from slurry tanks to high-performance components.
By the way: our floor wax, originally developed by Paul Wolfangel in the 1960s, is still being produced and delivered today – a silent classic that stands the test of time.
Wolfangel is a reliable partner for customers in the composites industry – with decades of expertise, true practical experience, and a team that bridges tradition and modernity.
A rather unusual, yet very typical part of our story:
Grandfather Paul Wolfangel owned a floor wax factory. From a simple idea, a wax was created that kept workshops, parquet floors – and eventually GRP production floors – effortlessly clean. It is still produced, sold, and used in many composite production facilities today. Sometimes, it’s the small ideas that last the longest.
The story of Wolfangel begins in the early 1960s. A photo shows our company founder in traditional leather breeches, engaged in fiber spraying – at the time, a revolutionary process for manufacturing fiber-reinforced plastic components. While others were still hesitating, Wolfangel was already right at the heart of the composites world.
Together with Ferdinand Ludescher, Rolf Wolfangel developed a sled dog sled for the Swiss Cantonal Police mountain rescue – the legendary Wolfludi sled. A simplified version later became the fastest sled on the Schöckingen toboggan run – legendary among the neighborhood children.
On their own initiative, the ‘Nature Boys’ built their canoes from fiber-reinforced plastic – an early fusion of passion and materials engineering. At the same time, a buggy was created using fiber spraying equipment, in which the founder’s daughter, Heike Wolfangel, later learned to drive. The vehicle remained in the family until 2011.
For HiFly, we designed and manufactured surfboards – directly applying the knowledge we had gained from canoe construction. During this time, we also assisted designer Luigi Colani in developing a tanning bed. Later, around 2005, we provided technology and know-how for a Colani project in China: an aerodynamic wind power cabin
The foundation for today’s machine production was laid. Rolf Wolfangel, originally a carpenter with a hands-on instinct, began building the machines that had previously existed only in his mind: simple, solid, reliable.
The smell of polyester led Peter Schmuhl right to our door. From this encounter, the company Schmuhl & Partner in Thuringia grew – an East-West enterprise founded by the Schmuhl and Wolfangel women. One notable project: the IGA-Bahn for Stuttgart in 1993.
A report in the international journal Reinforced Plastics recognized our work. Our philosophy? “Simple and perfect.” Because: What isn’t there can’t break.
The next generation takes the helm. Even though a newspaper report at the time was rather meager – the story as it really happened has since been written by us day by day, with dedication and foresight.
For almost 15 years, Heike Wolfangel and Andreas Doll have jointly led the management. We are particularly happy about a 50 % female quota – in both the executive team and the entire workforce – a clear sign of a modern corporate culture.
After the accidental death of Rolf Wolfangel, the team continues to uphold his values. At the JEC in Paris, the first iJect touch UP injection system is presented, and the first production units are delivered.
The iJec systems, featuring intelligence and control, are further developed for epoxy resins.
Introduction of the iJect touch mini UP – a mobile, compact injection system.
Wolfangel ends the production of composite components and focuses on mechanical engineering, plant engineering, and automation.
First robotics project with CMA Robotics, along with an automated RTM application for part production using polyester resin.
Implementation of several robotics projects, e.g., for pool and yacht components.
Market launch of a new touch panel and a new software generation.
